Kings Mountain Research is located above the town of Woodside, in San Mateo county, California. It is centrally located to both Silicon Valley and Biotech Bay, known for entrepreneurial resources.

Several excellent universities are within short driving distance: Stanford University, San Francisco State University, the University of California at San Francisco, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Kings Mountain Research was founded in 1997 to address the interdisciplinary needs of biotechnology and high technology companies, especially concentrating on the junction of statistics, molecular genetics, and computer science.
